Money tips for visitors
- The Kenyan shillingKenya's currency is the Kenyan shilling (KES, often written KSh). Most everyday prices are in shillings.
- Use banks and licensed bureausChange money at banks, licensed forex bureaus or airport exchange counters, and keep your receipt. Avoid offers to change money on the street.
- Bring clean, recent notesMany exchangers refuse old, torn or marked foreign banknotes, especially older US dollar bills.
- Cards and ATMsCards are widely accepted in Nairobi hotels, malls and larger restaurants, and ATMs are common in towns. Carry some cash for smaller purchases and tips.
